Worse than the light in that room is the fact that the temp was always off. I am hoping I spend a bit more time in there once the insulation and heating is improved.Thomas Hogglestockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14284352537015457974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2857559754406230039.post-56535000281115857702014-04-02T05:02:09.025-07:002014-04-02T05:02:09.025-07:00Thank you. When I had a carpenter build some shelves for me a few years ago and as I recall he told me that any shelf width wider than 36 inches needs to have some support underneath the back edge of the shelf, lest the weight of the books will cause it to begin sagging somewhere in its lifetime. Your room and shelving design looks great, and I love the idea of the radiant heat floor. Keeps one's toesies warm while reading. You obviously do not want anything on your shelves except books, but I love to mix it up a bit. :-) JudyMachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04448320253904832677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2857559754406230039.post-39351374684098801402014-03-29T09:43:27.134-07:002014-03-29T09:43:27.134-07:00Hi Thomas, love all the bookshelf eye candy. You ...Hi Thomas, love all the bookshelf eye candy. You won't regret having smaller shelves that are also not as deep - less dust will accumulate on and behind your books. Our book room here at home only has one north-facing window, and I have to say that it is never where I want to sit and read, but the big plus is that daylight won't fade your book spines and damage any valuable books you happen to have.

Our living room is also north facing, with some windows to the west also, and when we bought this house the room had been painted a warm nutmeg brown by the previous owner, with a black painted wood floor and white trim. I thought I wasn't going to be able to live with it, it's so dark, but you know, any artwork we put on the walls against that brown just looks wonderful, and it's been six years+ and I don't think I'm going to repaint the room at this point! It does light up briefly at sunset, which helps, but I've grown to love it. I think my neighbors think I am a hermit or something since they are always closed up, and I leave before dawn and arrive back after dark.
